Main Level Walkthrough

The front of the cabin is one living and dining area built around a masonry fireplace on the end wall. The kitchen sits in the back corner with a range, sink and refrigerator along one wall, and an arch separates it from the living space without closing it off.

The bedroom fills the other back corner with room for a queen bed. Between the kitchen and the bedroom, a bath holds a 3×3 shower, a toilet and a sink, with an armoire beside it. A ladder by the bath climbs to the storage loft.

Storage Loft

The 288 sq ft storage loft sits over the back half of the cabin, reached by a ladder, with about 5 feet of headroom along the sides. The front half stays open to below, so the living room keeps its full log ceiling.

Porches, Decks and Outdoor Living

The 210 sq ft covered porch runs the length of the kitchen side, with steps at both ends and a door into the cabin. It doubles as a dry place for wood, boots and gear.

Where the Trapper Fits Best

The Trapper suits hunters, anglers and anyone setting a cabin on a remote parcel where materials have to come in on one or two loads. One bath, one bedroom and a fireplace keep the cabin simple to heat and simple to close up for the season.

Its compact footprint fits small flat pads on steep or wooded ground.

Ways to Customize the Trapper

Every Frontier Log Homes plan is a starting point, not a limit. Common changes to the Trapper log cabin kit:

  • Replace the ladder with a ship’s stair for easier loft access.
  • Swap the fireplace for a wood stove to cut heating costs.
  • Add a second covered porch on the front wall.
  • Enlarge the bath with a tub instead of the shower.

What’s Included in the Trapper Log Cabin Kit

Every Trapper log cabin kit starts as a hand-crafted log package from our yard in Montrose, Colorado: hand-peeled full round logs for the walls and roof structure, plus log bucks for doors and windows, log stairs and railings. The logs are scribed, notched and pre-fit in the yard, numbered, and shipped to your building site anywhere in the U.S. Construction times run 1 to 13 weeks depending on the size of the kit. See the full package on our log cabin kits page.

Want more than the log package? A dry-in package makes the shell weather-tight, and a turn-key build puts Frontier Log Homes in charge of the whole project. Building departments review log walls against ICC 400, the national standard for log structures, so plan for engineering on every site.
