Discover The Log Cabin Lifestyle

We are passionate about building log cabins that bring nostalgia and coziness of a simpler lifestyle to your home.

Log Cabin Kits

We are passionate about building log cabins that identify with the fundamental human desire to connect with nature on a basic level, bringing you back to a simpler lifestyle.

We do this with our commitment to using full round logs in all of our kits. These logs are hand peeled using drawknives, then round notches are scribed and cut by hand using a hammer, chisel and chainsaw, adding a rich texture to your logs. This process adds a unique characteristic to your home because it is fully hand crafted and cannot be reproduced.

Small Cabin Kits & Hunting Cabins

Explore the versatility of our log cabin kits and create a small cabin for your weekend escape from the city, a rustic hunting lodge, a multi-use tiny home, or an affordable second home.  We do all sizes of pre-planned kits from 700 square feet up to 3,500 square feet, so the possibilities are endless for your high quality log home.

Hybrid Log Homes

Hybrid homes have taken off with the development of new techniques that can seamlessly stitch together very different construction materials. You can mix log home construction methods with conventional and timber structures to make a hybrid home that blends rustic charm with modern touches. Your hybrid home can include logs, timber posts, stucco, porches, decks, stone, and cement in a mix-and-match design. With the right home designer, the end result is as unique as it is stunning.

What Is a Hybrid Home?

A hybrid home is a blend of logs and building systems that include full or half-stone, stucco, drywall, cement, and timber posts. For example, a stone wall can be joined with a log wall that highlights the earthiness of the stone and matches its tone.

Here at Frontier Log Homes in Montrose, Colorado, we have the expertise to construct hybrid homes with logs and other building techniques to match your preferences.

There are many ways a log home or cabin stands out as energy efficient

What’s Included in a Hybrid Home?

In a hybrid log home, we add log components to a conventionally framed home. This could include accents such as logs on the roof, beams, rafters, posts, door and window bucks, log stairs, railings, log siding, mantles, and more.

Adding logs to a framed home creates a rustic contrast of materials and textures that boost the warmth and character of your home.

What Are the Benefits of a Hybrid Home?

Floor Plan Frontier Log Homes

Flexibility

Some people don’t like the all-rustic feel of log homes, yet they would like to incorporate log touches into their homes. A hybrid home gives people the flexibility to strategically position logs and wood elements for decoration. They can use, for instance, log trusses to adorn the living room and add a rustic touch.

You can include as many or as few log beams as you want to achieve the aesthetics you are looking for. A hybrid home lets you have the cabin feel without the exuberance of the total-log look.

Most importantly, a hybrid home lets you express your individuality and create a home that perfectly matches your personal taste.

Improved Insulation

In harsh climate conditions, good insulation is key. Log homes already have an excellent energy-saving potential—but a hybrid home can go a step further. For example, you can cut logs in half and place one half on the outside, then place extra insulation and put the other half on the inside. This way, your home will have the look of a log home but with additional insulation.

Aesthetic Purposes

A hybrid home gives you a blank canvas to apply decorative and aesthetic touches to your home.

You can have, for example, a stone siding to add texture to your outside wall and beams on the inside for a rustic touch and an enhanced country look.

Many home designers also include reclaimed materials that would not qualify if they were actively included in the construction process. In this case, reclaimed beams, posts, and logs are used for decorative purposes to add a patina of time and rustic charm.

Small Details for Absolute Personalization

The hybrid home lets you customize the smallest details such as your home’s mantle, handrails, interior stairs, railings, and more.

You can use a mix of materials, including logs, to achieve a beautiful, personalized result. Such unique details add creative depth to your home and speak volumes of your taste. The melding of different construction and material styles is highly customizable and eclectic.

Your Home Won’t Lose on Functionality

The fact that you mix different construction styles doesn’t take away from functionality. On the contrary, you will be benefiting from each material’s building potential.

For example, you can have walls framed like a traditional, conventional home that is easy and quick to build. By combining it with log elements, you can benefit from both the stone’s functionality and the logs’ insulation properties.

Naturally, hybrid homes can also include all the modern amenities such as security systems, alarms, and connectivity. You will get a modern home that complies with the demands of modern life.

Colorado-Based Frontier Log Homes

We Have Been Working with Logs for 40 Years

We have built hundreds of log homes and are experts at working with logs. We can adjust designs and techniques to incorporate logs and beams into your home design, thus creating a tailor-made result that has maximum visual impact.

We Have Our Own Log-Assembly Yard

Frontier Log Homes is based in Montrose, Colorado, where we have our own assembly yard. We are not a lumber mill but craftsmen with decades of dedication and expertise. We don’t mass-produce logs and log homes. Instead, we handcraft our log homes from handpicked logs that have dried for at least 12 months and contain minimum moisture.

Our craftsmanship ensures that our logs don’t crack or settle and that they join smoothly with the rest of the construction. Our log walls can sit next to a non-log wall and the joining of these two different construction techniques will be sound and seamless.

We Have the Right Craftsmen and Designers

You will find all the craftsmen, designers, and carpenters you need for your job at our Montrose, Colorado, premises. Our people are dedicated and experienced and will come up with novel ideas to add charm and functionality to your home.
