Main Level Walkthrough

The main level is one open room. A kitchen runs along the back wall with a range, sink and refrigerator, the dining table sits in the middle, and the living area faces the front windows. A wood stove sits in the corner, and a stacked washer and dryer fits under the stair. The front door opens straight onto the covered deck.

Bedroom Level

A straight stair climbs to the upper level, which holds the bedroom, a closet and a full bath with a shower and a linen shelf. Low storage runs along both side walls under the roof slope — 190 sq ft for bins, bedding and gear. The bedroom sits under the roof peak, where the headroom is highest.

Porches, Decks and Outdoor Living

The 160 sq ft covered deck runs along the side of the cabin with steps down at both ends — a sheltered place for boots, firewood and morning coffee.

Where the Timberline Fits Best

The Timberline is built for tight lots, steep sites with a small flat pad, backcountry parcels and short-term rentals where a couple wants a real cabin, not a tiny house on wheels. Its small footprint keeps foundation, septic and heating costs low.

It also works as an accessory cabin next to a main home, an office in the trees, or a starter cabin while the main house goes through design.

Ways to Customize the Timberline

Every Frontier Log Homes plan is a starting point, not a limit. Common changes to the Timberline log cabin kit:

  • Add a covered porch to the front wall.
  • Swap the wood stove for a direct-vent gas stove.
  • Lengthen the cabin by one bay to add a mud room.
  • Add a dormer to grow the upstairs bath.

What’s Included in the Timberline Log Cabin Kit

Every Timberline log cabin kit starts as a hand-crafted log package from our yard in Montrose, Colorado: hand-peeled full round logs for the walls and roof structure, plus log bucks for doors and windows, log stairs and railings. The logs are scribed, notched and pre-fit in the yard, numbered, and shipped to your building site anywhere in the U.S. Construction times run 1 to 13 weeks depending on the size of the kit. See the full package on our log cabin kits page.

Want more than the log package? A dry-in package makes the shell weather-tight, and a turn-key build puts Frontier Log Homes in charge of the whole project. Building departments review log walls against ICC 400, the national standard for log structures, so plan for engineering on every site.
